Science Organization looking to hire a machinimatographer for short teaching film

Carol Anne Hagele contacted me and asked if I could post the following: it's not as dull as it looks.  Her institution wants a fantasy dramatization for elementary school children that will alert…Continue

Cross-dissolves causing lag (and ultra keys and overlays)

Started this discussion. Last reply by Hypatia Pickens Nov 2, 2011. 5 Replies

I am so frustrated.  I take shots adjusting frame rate and draw distance, select clips that are without lag, I put them on my time line in CS5 Premiere Pro, I'm using the ultra key, and as soon as I…Continue

A few technical questions about MESH

Started this discussion. Last reply by Hypatia Pickens Aug 31, 2011. 6 Replies

Well, it looks like MESH is taking our Virtual World by storm, so to speak, and the UWA is even getting art entries using it.  So my reservations about the MESH viewer have to be quashed.   I went to…Continue

Dear MAG members, Sorry for the cross-posting but I wanted to alert you to an issue I opened in the FS JIRA.  There is a serious problem with making machinima in Firestorm that I wonder if the rest…Continue

What is your main interest when making machinimas? (actor, production etc...)
For the mind-blowing joy found in making something beautiful move on the screen. In 2010, I was given a grant to teach a film course on machinima and that’s how I got started on this cool and edgy artform. I’m a writer and artist and story-teller; I love the spoken word, the lyric, and musical and visual composition, and here I can put it all together!
Are you interested in working with other resident machinima makers on a collaborative project?
What's the name the Second Life avatar you use for machinima?

Share a little about yourself.
I've been in Second Life for five years where I have engaged in a number of activities, in literary groups and in art circles. I am also a scholar, and a critical and creative writer. I have published fiction, poetry and teleplays under the nom de plume of "Sally Caves." I teach (using my real name) medieval literature as well as film and cultural studies at a university in Western New York. I am interested not only in the making of machinima (which is a new form of artistic expression for me) but opening it up to academic scrutiny. I have won several awards for my films and some of them have been featured in international film festivals.

Pooky Media made the first SL Public Service Announcement!

Posted on May 26, 2012 at 2:56pm 5 Comments

I was very thrilled that Pooky Media made a machinima for my sister's place of work. I made a call for it here, and she saw it or someone passed it along.  I'm very grateful. She told me that it was the first Public Service Announcement to use a virtual environment period, and one made in Second Life no less! Here's the link which Pooky said I could share:

She worked with my sister…

The Harkness Films

Posted on May 18, 2012 at 3:05pm 7 Comments

Hello, MAG! After a challenging semester, I'd like to draw your attention to the machinima posted by my students on their YouTube Channel, so called because we met in Harkness Hall 3 times a week for 14 arduous weeks:

Maybe some of you will check it out and watch the final projects (many but not all made in Second Life). Two of my students are…

Looking for contributors to a survey about machinima

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 4:56pm 1 Comment

Hello friends!  I've been asked to contribute to a collection of essays, and I have finally gotten my survey questions together that I want to direct to SL machinimatographers and SL builders/artists.  Where this will be published is still in the works, but it will probably be a print-production.  Crossing my fingers.

I welcome any interested filmmakers and/or artists to contribute to this; you can answer all or part of the many questions. If you are willing, and I hope you…

Japan these past few days....

Posted on March 17, 2011 at 8:15am 0 Comments

I just wanted to express my concern and sympathy for our Japanese machinimatographers.  I am sure we are all worried about you, and hope that you are safe.  I have always wanted to come to Japan and I admire the artistry of your country, and your work on machinima and in Second Life. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks I will look at Tilt, my pleasure. I haven't been to this site for a while as I was busy and when I am busy I get so distracted, these days there are just so many distractions too, so I have a lot of catching up to do. I am excited to see what you have been up to, cheers.

Hypatia thanks so much for your comment in LnLs machinima Dead End. It is words like yours that encourages us to keep working!! Yes, the location was invisible cities, we saw it and thought !!WOW!! we have to do something here lol. I am glad you liked the lights got a few comments about them but not as possitive as yours. We played for a while in our sandbox creating light prims and ended up with this wearable hud that gives a light result that we quite enjoy. Big Hugs, hope you have a wonderful day!!

I did make most of the props. It was an adventure and an enjoyable one. One thing about making your set, is that you have total control :D. TY for your comment.
