On the use of other party material for you works.

I have seen countless times that people use copyrighted material in the supposition that this is allowed because You Tube doesn't ban them outright. Indeed, You Tube creates a kind of confusion in that it actually tolerates these infringements. It does so with a reason.

That You Tube, or others, do so, does not make it legal and does NOT protect you from being banned or sued.

In fact the allowance shown by You Tube is merely a gesture that has no legal backing towards…

The Harkness Films

Hello, MAG! After a challenging semester, I'd like to draw your attention to the machinima posted by my students on their YouTube Channel, so called because we met in Harkness Hall 3 times a week for 14 arduous weeks:

Maybe some of you will check it out and watch the final projects (many but not all made in Second Life). Two of my students are…

YouTube account stop

Everyone, hello.

I'm yumix Writer.

I suspended an account of YouTube from yesterday.

Therefore all videos I exhibited up to now are reading impossibility.

Why was it this?

YouTube said that 1 of the videos I exhibited conflicted in an overdone violent expression for that.

I'm exhibiting the same one as an animation of the violent expression which crossed the line YouTube judged in Dailymotion.…

Machinima Filming Opportunity

One of the issues machinimatographers often have is finding a legal spot to tell their story. If that sounds familiar and you are looking for a backdrop for you next film ---

Feel free to use my new subway set - AND, if you choose, get a little fame and glory along the way.

I won a LEA Endowment parcel and will be making a film using that set.  See the  …

Machinima as a professional film medium

Today I want to talk about machinima being a “professional” film medium, or we could translate that as a “legitimate” film medium.

What I mean is…the mainstream (not all, but most) don’t take this form of film making seriously. Some may even go so far as to say that machinima is for those wanting their 15 minutes of fame, or for the film maker…

Need artist to create machinima sequence for live-action humor video (paying gig)

Hi... I'm the editorial director of MaximumPC, MaximumTech and Maclife (all websites with accompanying print magazines). I'm looking for a machinima artist who can create a 15- to 20-second sequence that would be inserted in a live-action humor video. The look/feel of the animation should be evocative of the infamous "Tiger Woods marital dispute" machinima, as shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV85rD0gfqo

However, there…

Looking for contributors to a survey about machinima

Hello friends!  I've been asked to contribute to a collection of essays, and I have finally gotten my survey questions together that I want to direct to SL machinimatographers and SL builders/artists.  Where this will be published is still in the works, but it will probably be a print-production.  Crossing my fingers.

I welcome any interested filmmakers and/or artists to contribute to this; you can answer all or part of the many questions. If you are willing, and I hope you…

Can we standardize a permissions form and database for filming machinima on certain landmarks?

I work at a university in San Francisco. I have made a few machinima videos for my students of English as a second language. I just like to travel around and use different backdrops for my lessons. It has been great and my students love them. I have until now functioned under the fair use law. However, my viewing numbers are starting to grow on Youtube, which I did not expect at all.

I have followed Chantal Harvey and Pia Klaar's wonderful work. I just love them. I have no plans to…
