Pooky Media made the first SL Public Service Announcement!

I was very thrilled that Pooky Media made a machinima for my sister's place of work. I made a call for it here, and she saw it or someone passed it along.  I'm very grateful. She told me that it was the first Public Service Announcement to use a virtual environment period, and one made in Second Life no less! Here's the link which Pooky said I could share:

She worked with my sister on the story. Carol Anne works at the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Association in southern California as an educational representative giving lectures to the community about pests. She said it's one thing to TALK to a bunch of children (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz <-- their inattention; NOT the buzz of mosquitoes) but another to be able to show them an animated feature where they really perked up. She said the entire room was quiet when she ran it. The Asian Tiger mosquito poses a fairly ominous threat as it spreads around the southern states (lyme disease, dengue, etc.)  Pooky and her team made this AWESOME film. What a marvelous collaboration. It really shows how Second Life in particular is a grand platform for animation anywhere.  Thank you POOKY!!  And thank you M.A.G.

Insects--good and bad--seem to be the matter at hand, here. ;)  Also, trees.... And penguins.

I think its great to see people using the footage they shoot in SL in all different kinds of ways. What makes SL so wonderfully unique is that you (the maker of the machinma) actually have legal rights to what you shoot, so you CAN use it for political expression and not be afraid of a take-down notice.

lol thanks Hypatia, I wondered...

Re the E Petitions, these are online petitions to Government in various causes that people may sign to show their support of a propossed motion or change in law.

I have placed them as live links at top of text notes below films on you tube, so that anyone can see them without needing to read the film notes (many people don't look to notes but will see what is immediately below the film)

Below the bee myth is this

PLEASE SIGN THE FRIENDS OF THE EARTH BEE PETITION HERE
http://www.foe.co.uk/what_we_do/bee_cause_petition_35038.html )
FRIENDS OF THE EARTH.

Below the butterflys tale is this

KEEP PROTECTION FOR WILDLIFE AND THE ENVIRONMENT
PLEASE SIGN THE E-PETITION HERE ( http://goo.gl/iFN9U )

& Below the Tree of Life this

PLEASE SIGN & SHARE THE PETITION TO SAVE OUR ANCIENT FORESTS, HERE ( http://bit.ly/HDFkFZ ) WOODLAND TRUST.

Unfortunately these are UK based E-Petitons and so probably will not allow  wider world singnatures, but if you or anyone reading this can show me a more global E Petition for any of thes cause I shall be more than delighted to include it.

Celestial!  Yes, I do think so. Tell us more about the E-Petitions? I think your work would go over especially well in classrooms, especially because of their fancifulness. Obviously, then, this film is not the first public awareness message made in a virtual environment, but it's one of the first ones made specifically for an institution that hired its producer.  Get 'em out there!  You rock.

Very cool project and Public Service Announcement video, thank you for sharing it here Hypatia.

I definitely support the growing trend for Second Life Machinima to address a wider world audience and to carry serious messages and this film does both very well.

I wonder if my Butterflys tale, Bee Myth and Tree of Life, all of which have links to E-Petitons, might also be said to fall into the category of Public Service Announcement Machinima, as they also serve to carry similar environmental public awareness messages, although in a perhaps more fanciful manner...
