Lol, William!   I'm so glad you've written a dissertaion on this topic.  There is so little out there about virtual reality and machinima--in terms of academic analysis.  Mostly I've been reading (and teaching) Baudrillard's S&S and got really bogged down by all that negativity. But my feeling too is that he would have REALLY warmed up to machinima and what we're doing here.  Peter Greenaway's comments were interesting.

This is great, it relates so much to what I've also been immersed in lately... Virtuality and the Hyper-real... what my dissertation was all about, can purely empathise with what you mean by drowning in art theory. Love the ghostly silloutted avatars.

Thanks Natascha. Right, I have a cool, sardonic accompaniment for it on my Kurzweil that I was less confident about, however. Also I didn't have the right equipment to record both voice and piano for the submission. For that I would need a good mic and some sort of dubbing equipment like a tascam. Our old tascam only makes CDs not MP3s.... sigh. So you'll have to appreciate the intimacy of a cappella. OH! and I'm so glad you saw its comic elements! :)

Really really great and I love your kind of humor. The only thing I miss, is a piano or some background sounds. Well done.

Hypatia, I think you could read Greg Egan 's Diaspora....seems to resonate with what you just said :D

Thanks Friday. I think credit should go primarily to the artists. They gave us these backgrounds to build stories around. It's amazing what a good build will do. Ian, I never thought of the film as being about alienation, but wow. Yeah. Painful? I think so. The accompaniment I wrote for this is in a minor key. The story is told, of course, by an avatar who dreams she is "natural," but we naturals dream of Eden and connection. But the pixels we see and think of as "hyperreal," or as the product of an age of mechanical reproduction, actually do exist in specific dimensions on the grid, and no where else. You can't pick up a poster and get to them. They are realer than the films made about them. Whoa, slow down here Hyp. HAHA

I love the opening window shot and the umbrellas, gorgeous color and music, that is such a cool exhibit and you did great with it, just don't ask me to read Baudrillard either :)

I tried to read Baudrillard once. I had this sheet with a couple of paragraphs on. Read it again and again but as a dyslexic it was one of the most impentrable experiences of my life. I LOVE the ideas though.....

Loved the imagery. But the alienation. Painful at moments. Thats good! It connects!

PS: no green screen... I built that wretched little dorm room and parked it in front of Nish's Umbrellas. At one point, JayJay just stood there and I got so embarrassed I picked everything up and logged off. Turns out he was afk. (I would love to green screen. Must read Blog.)
