Friday Siamendes  , I film dark angel in toxian city which is not a movie set, it a RP sim, I hardly make my own sets, its a challenge to film on open sets / sim.   The freedom that is taken away by not be able to add props or stuff is a nice challenge,  its playing with the environment. taking advantage of stuff others build.

In this case toxian placed those lightpost there intented for peope to stand against so I used that for the movie :)

One of many interesting choices was the variations on an object, such as the lamppost at the beginning. It's easy to use an object once, like a checkbox - "lamppost adds touch of mood - check" - but more inventive to play with it, as you did, and try some other perspectives and placements. The result is that the lamppost assumes a sort of pivotal function, something recognizable that takes on significance of its own. nice

Thanks you for that tips Natascha,  concerning fighting and filming myself with those swords...well lol to be honest its the first time i ever use weapons in SL, im more a magic hud fan LOL, so yeah I'm like " why the heck made i make him say that he can handle everything the city throws at him?? I can't even fight DCS ! lol "

Very cool and dark video.  Some very good transitions and fx. Seems that there'll be a showdown with those flaming swords in the next part. I'm curious!

To fight against lag, Asil wrote a lot of configuration tips here: http://slmachinimaarts.ning.com/forum/topics/clientside-lag-fighting

There are many Tips & Tricks there in the "Second Life Tips & Tricks". So I think the  right place to discuss fundamental things like draw distance or the LL graphic engine is there.

The video comment boxes are just for the video itself and I know that all machinimators are know about all the small issues in their videos. But the reviews here are always helpful for all users to learn eg what kind of things you should avoid or what you can make better.

Criticism here are never  meant to offend or something like that. Truly I like it most, when all people say: great, awesome and so on, but sometimes It is not really helpful :)

totally agree the hard choices, which is why i sometimes fail, choosing effect over technical excellence, im trying hard to find the happy medium.

Its always a hard choice between, choosing for better quality like using  atmospheric shaders and lighting in SL and the draw distance.   I think those buildings would not have popped in when I filmed it at a draw distance of 1024 for panoramic shots,  but the fun thing is I did not even noticed that till you pointed it out :)

Then again Im not trying to make a hollywood movie here, as long as people like the movies I make its ok, I dont go pixel by pixel :)   but yeah I think im going to film at MAX draw distance in the future despite of some lag shooting long distance shots like that.

Also something totally loose of the machinima part, I think linden labs is using a terrible graphics engine, why can i shoot very smooth lagless  movies in game suchs as assasins creed, and the elder scrolls skyrim, or other high graphic games, but Linden labs lacks a good engine.

I found 1 thing out by experience now ,  I can cranked up the graphics and draw distances, but then I just need to use FRAPS in a 60 FPS and window selection, meaning playing sl in a small winodw and film like that instead of fullscreen in which i usually run sl :)

nb Love the ravens- shakecam effect

Hi, i hadnt given the lag points in my previous comment because i thought that you would honestly know where they were, but theres prim 'popping' of buildings and trees in top left at 0.46,  the feet scene at 1.30 seems a bit jolty - tho perhaps the impression is created by the feet lol, the camera turns on angel at 1.47-54 stutter a bit (and at 2.00 also), whilst i enjoyed your film - the reason we may mention these points is to share with each other any apsects that may be improved, nb i also suffer from lag and stutter haha but im working on reducing it :)
